About Alleyn's Junior School
We're a happy school
Happy children are fulfilled children and, with our considerable resources, we nurture every child's gift and talent. Alleyn's is a co-educational school and socialisation underpins every aspect of our school life.
A wide range of extra-curricular activities enriches the academic progress of children. Creative development in Art, Technology, Drama and Music give the children opportunities to explore a wide range of media augmented by a rich diversity of gallery visits.
Drama is very dear to our hearts, as befits a school whose founder, Edward Alleyn, was the actor superstar of the Shakespearian age. All classes take part in an annual open assembly performance and the school presents two major theatrical productions a year. Classes regularly attend theatre productions for inspiration. A stunning new Performing Arts Centre will open in November 2008 and The National Youth Theatre, which began life at Alleyn's, is set to return home once the building is opened.
All children are encouraged to develop their musical talents through our strings scheme, percussion, singing and instrument tuition. We have superb music facilities and teaching that is second to none. It is a measure of our musical success that the school has various orchestras and a wide range of extra-curricular music groups. The children give a regular programme of concerts both at school and at venues around London. Individual instrument tuition is offered to older pupils by visiting teachers.
Generous timetabling, talented teaching and fantastic facilities ensure your children receive a first class Physical Education at Alleyn's. The regular programme includes soccer, hockey, netball, rounders, cricket, athletics, swimming, gymnastics and general fitness training. In Years 5 and 6, children enjoy off-site adventure activities, competitive fixtures with local schools and take part in IAPS competitions, South London league and Cornflower Cup tournaments.
We produce an annual magazine, support charity projects each term, organise regular museum and gallery visits, offer an annual skiing holiday for children and many other activities guaranteed to enliven and stimulate the curriculum.
Parents play a very important part in the success of the school. Our ethos is to foster a positive, trusting relationship between parents and teachers and regular informal contact is encouraged. Twice yearly, there are formal meetings arranged by the school and written reports. The headmaster is always pleased to see parents to discuss any concerns.
Our community life is a strong ingredient of our success as a school. Parents automatically become members of the Alleyn's Junior School Association which actively promotes social contact between parents through a variety of organised events during the year.
We are a happy school, confident in our ability to deliver the right balance of curricular and extra-curricular activity to give your child the best possible start, to capture their imagination and breed a lifelong love of learning.
