Alumna Awarded Prestigious Composition Award

Congratulations to composer Dobrinka Tabakova (Tyson’s 1997) who has been awarded The Ivor Novello Award for Best Community and Participation Composition in association with The Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music for her composition of Swarm Fanfares for The Hallé Youth Orchestra.

The prestigious Ivors Classical Awards celebrate the best in new classical music and sound art. The winners were announced during a ceremony hosted by BBC Radio 3’s Hannah Peel and Tom Service at the British Film Institute in London. BBC Radio 3 will broadcast the ceremony on 18 November in a special edition of the New Music Show. The episode will also be available on BBC Sounds.

Following Alleyn’s, Dobrinka graduated from the Guildhall School of Music and obtained a PhD from King’s College London. Her music has featured in films and dance and has been programmed at festivals across Europe and the US.

In 2019 Dobrinka composed a new School anthem, I will be with thee, for Alleyn’s as part of the Alleyn’s 400 celebrations. The piece premiered at a very special 400th Anniversary Commemoration Service at Westminster Abbey.

Congratulations Dobrinka!
