Alleyn's in 125 Objects

As part of our 2019 celebrations to mark the 400th anniversary of Edward Alleyn's College of God's Gift, we republish here our iconic online gallery: Alleyn's in 125 Objects.

The gallery was originally created to celebrate the 125th anniversary of Alleyn's taking residence in Townley Road, back in 1887. To shape the collection, the School invited nominations from the wider School community. As such, it holds a timeless appeal, presenting as it does an eclectic mix of artifacts that resonate with pupils, staff and parent - both past and present.

No. 1: Portrait of Edward Alleyn

Naturally, the first object in our collection is a copy of the William Bright Morris portrait of our founder Edward Alleyn (1566-1626), the actor-manager and contemporary of William Shakespeare. The copy is on display in the School’s entrance hall.
