Finding Your Thing Music

For the past two weeks, music has filled all corners of our school as Houses have thrown themselves into intensive rehearsals for one of the most eagerly anticipated events in the school calendar: House Music. From House Choirs to ensembles and soloists, it has been fantastic to hear so much music being rehearsed, refined and, finally, performed. This year’s three categories brought a wonderful variety of repertoire: one piece in a Classical style; one celebrating music from 1975–1984, marking 50 years of co-education at Alleyn’s and revisiting the music pupils might have heard during its first decade; and, finally, a completely free choice. The result was a brilliantly eclectic evening of music!

There were inspired repertoire choices, excellent choreography, infectious energy and, above all, House spirit in abundance, alongside some truly inspirational singing and playing. Our adjudicator, Ellie Calver, was hugely impressed by the standard and spirit of the music-making throughout the evening. Congratulations to Brown's, awarded Third Prize; Cribb's awarded Second Prize; and our 2026 House Music champions, Tulley's! Congratulations, too, to every pupil who took part and contributed so enthusiastically to such a memorable evening.

A huge thank you must go to our Heads of House, the Events and Catering Teams, and the Music Department for the enormous amount of work behind the scenes that allows this much-loved competition to happen. And to all our performers: thank you for two weeks of music, creativity, and teamwork.

House Music, we’ll see you again in two years’ time!
