Oberto is no small part. Appearing throughout all three acts, the role calls for a solo aria in each, culminating in the fiendishly difficult "Barbara! io ben lo so", which Thomas delivered with outstanding musicality and virtuosity. Singing alongside Lisette Oropesa and a cast of international soloists, he showed extraordinary artistry and composure, and the cheers at the curtain call said it all.
The critics agreed, describing his performance as "tremendous", "bold and clear-voiced" and full of "winning assurance". A triumph, and an unforgettable experience. Congratulations, Thomas!
