General Information for entry in September 2019

Our pupils come from a wide social and ethnic spread. In our entry we look for candidates who will respond to the School's care, opportunities and values, and who will, in return, contribute to the School with their talents and enthusiasm.

11+ and 13+ entry in September 2018: registration has now closed

At Alleyn’s we accept applications from the 1st September of the year before entry (we neither pre-test nor accept early applications). Registration for 16+ entry to Alleyn’s in September 2019 should be made between 1st September and 16th November 2018.

At 11+ and 13+ there is an entrance examination held in January. We take into account the examination performance and the report from the candidate's current school before selecting candidates to attend a small group assessment and individual interview. These small group assessments and interviews take place at the end of January. When awarding fee-paying places, scholarships and bursaries we take into account the examination result, the school report, small group assessment and interview.

All 11+ and 13+ candidates are considered for an academic scholarship. Candidates who wish to be considered for a scholarship in sport, music or, at 11+ only, in art, must submit a separate application with supporting references by the registration deadline.

Parents are informed in mid-February whether or not the School is able to offer their child a place and those offered places are asked to confirm acceptance within a fortnight.

Our aim is to fill around 135 places at 11+ each September.  Alleyn's Junior School pupils have automatic entry to the Senior School but they still sit the entrance examination with all other candidates; they are expected to make up about one-third of the Year 7 intake. The other two-thirds will be children joining from a wide spread of state primary schools and independent junior schools.

There are normally between 10 and 20 places available each year for candidates applying for entry at 13+ into Year 9.

16+ entry in September 2018: registration has now closed

Registration for 16+ entry to Alleyn’s in September 2019 should be made between 1st September and 19th October 2018.

At 16+ there is an entrance assessment held towards the end of the autumn term and a report sought from the candidate's current school. Selected candidates are invited for interview. Scholarships and places are awarded on the basis of performance in the assessment, the interview and the report from the current school. Subsequent offers of places are conditional upon good GCSE results.

Candidates from abroad should read our Overseas Applicants at 16+ Policy, please click here to be directed to the policy.
