This Saturday, Middle School pupil Lauren competed in the Eastern Region Youth Championships in U14 Foil, the regional qualifying competition for the British Youth Championships in May and, after a long, tough series of fights, earned herself a well-deserved 3rd place.
On Sunday Lauren also competed in the same regional qualifiers for the U14 Épée and managed to win after some intense knockout matches.
Lauren has now automatically qualified for the British Youth Championships in Sheffield in May! We wish her all the best and look forward to reporting further success later this year.
Fencing is a group of three related combat sports: the foil, the épée, and the sabre. Winning points are made through the contact with an opponent. According to Wikipedia a fourth discipline, singlestick, appeared in the 1904 Olympics but was dropped after that.
