We are delighted that physician, broadcaster and Alleyn's Scientist-in-Residence Dr Kevin Fong has been appointed Officer of the Order of the British Empire in the 2019 Birthday Honours, for his services to medicine and healthcare.
Dr Fong OBE attended Buckingham Palace to receive his honour from Prince Charles, calling it ".. a particularly special day out" in a post on Twitter which has already been liked thousands of times. He went on to say: "Thank you to everyone who has stood by me over the years and got me here. But most especially of all to my mum and dad. Couldn't have done any of it without you!"
The whole School community sends its congratulations to Dr Fong and his family on this wonderful and well-deserved achievement.
An expert on space medicine, Dr Kevin Fong has been the School's Scientist-in-Residence since September 2018. He holds degrees in astrophysics, medicine and space engineering, and is a highly-regarded physician and presenter who enjoys a long association with Alleyn's. Pupils across the Junior and Senior Schools regularly enjoy his fascinating lectures and workshops that bring science and space medicine so vividly to life.
Dr Fong is also the presenter of BBC podcast #13MinutestotheMoon, which returns for a second series this spring to tell the definitive story of Apollo 13. The first series covered the dramatic final 13-minute descent of the Apollo 11 mission, when everything came close to going badly wrong. Episodes and other resources from that first series are available on the BBC website.
