Protective Face Shields for the NHS

Alleyn's Design and Technology department is producing face shields to support local NHS services.

Head of Design & Technology Mr Philip Saville is leading efforts to support local NHS services by producing protective face shields.

Mr Saville gained approval for the face shield prototype from Virginia Morley, Director of Commissioning Developing for NHS Greenwich and NHS Bexley Clinical Commissioning Groups. He will be producing the shields with the help of colleague Mr Brendan Allen. Both will continue to observe government guidelines for social distancing as they embark on the project.

The face shields are made from polypropylene strips with an elastic band tensioner, and will be delivered to NHS Greenwich as well as to contacts at the Beacon Hospital in nearby Beckenham.

The School also recently donated various types of protective goggles, safety specs, aprons and masks to local NHS services. We are pleased to be able to play a part in the ongoing battle against the coronavirus.

NHS Greenwich and NHS Bexley Commissioning Groups are members of the NHS South East London Commissioning Alliance that also comprises Bexley, Bromley, Greenwich, Lambeth, Lewisham and Southwark.

* The manufacture and supply of face-shields by Alleyn’s School is by request from specific NHS Trusts and NHS Hospitals in immediate need of specific PPE products during the coronavirus pandemic. These recipients are fully aware that the products are manufactured in conditions which in some ways may not meet NHS or BSI standards and use and treat the products accordingly.
