Dance Lessons for Years 3, 4 and 5 provide the children with an opportunity to explore the art of dance through choreographing, appreciating and performing. The three units are designed to encourage creativity, nurturing each individual child’s contribution in addition to aiding progression of their physical, technical and expressive skills. These all-inclusive dance lessons also place emphasis on the importance of safety in dance.
The structure of the syllabus is as follows:
- Year 3 - Unit 1: Narrative in Dance
- Year 4 - Unit 2: Mood, Movement and Music
- Year 5 - Unit 3: Abstract Dance Composition
Throughout the units, the children develop personal and social skills through various practical tasks and will have the opportunity to perform their work to peers and family. They will learn fundamental skills such as effective communication, leadership and teamwork, in addition to practical skills in dance.
We are delighted to have Dance on the curriculum at Alleyn’s Junior School and have seen the many benefits that this subject has to offer, in terms of both the physical and mental wellbeing of the children. This safe and fun space allows the children to explore their creativity, curiosity, and expression.
