Join us for a 3 week workshop exploring a variety of different Artistic Techniques with Mariia Shub.
Our Art Workshops are thoughtfully designed for anyone who’d like to explore new skills in a calm, supportive and friendly setting. Whether you’re picking up a pencil for the first time or rediscovering a love of art, you’ll feel right at home with us. Come along, unwind, and gently nurture your inner artist.
We’ll guide you through the foundations of a variety of techniques, from creative mark‑making and experimenting with texture and much more all at an easy, enjoyable pace.
Sessions are led by Mariia Shub, a professional art teacher and graphic designer who relocated from Ukraine. Mariia loves sharing her skills and creativity with the community that has so warmly welcomed her and her family. In addition to being a valued part of our children’s Holiday Camp, she is delighted to be working with Alleyn’s to offer adult art classes that are open, inclusive, and welcoming to all.
Sessions run for 1.5 hours, with the final 30 minutes set aside for tidying up and reflection
I believe that everyone is capable of being creative and ‘artistic’, no matter previous experience or skill
I am a professional Ukrainian artist and ceramicist who has also worked as a production designer and art director in film, animation and theatre. For many years I have run art courses in schools and summer camps for adults, family groups and children of all ages, experimenting with collages, murals, acrylics, water colours, mosaics and ceramics.
In my workshops, I am keen to encourage children and adults to enjoy being creative with the simplest of materials – paper, glue, tape, coloured pens, etc. I believe that everyone is capable of being creative and ‘artistic’, no matter previous experience or skill.
I have been teaching privately since 1998 and have run my own art-workshop where I teach children and adults alike. I believe that everyone is united by the pleasure of creating, and it leads to a change in state after the lesson, a positive emotional experience that binds us. I also have a deep understanding of the therapeutic possibilities of art, having organized workshops for children in remission from cancer and for parents who had experienced the loss of a child. These skills have their root in my own personal experience within a medical care setting. It is interesting for me to find where a person has a gift, pick up techniques and materials, and show how, with the help of art, we can cope.
Sometimes my skill lies more in the expertise that I have gained over the years as a production designer, and many professionals turn to me for a deepening of specific skills. Since a lot of my teaching happens between big cinema projects that I work on, my teaching is saturated with real application practice.
