Girovend card

David Heasman (R 2001-08) nominates the Girovend Card – an essential item introduced in 1987. Arthur Chandler, author of Alleyn’s: The Coeducational School wrote ‘Girovend! This word entered Alleyn’s vocabulary on the first day of Advent Term 1987 and soon became part of everyday life. The cashless society had arrived and the Headmaster [Derek Fenner] decided that children must be trained for this.’
