Alleyn’s School is a leading co-educational independent day school in Dulwich, London, educating pupils aged 4–18 across its Senior School and two Junior Schools: Alleyn’s Oakfield and Alleyn’s Junior School.
This Advent term, Alleyn’s Drama presented two nights of the most daring and dynamic Bear Pit performances by a company of actors and directors from Years 12 and 13. With six productions, including new writing and adaptations of modern drama, each evening was divided into two ‘shows’ – as audience sizes remain limited in School.
On Thursday 28 January, audiences watched Midnight, an adaptation of one of Russell T. Davies' finest Doctor Who episodes. Set on a leisure planet where the Doctor is on holiday, a tourist shuttle is infiltrated by a mysterious entity. This production was followed by Fresh Meat, a lively adaptation of Jesse Armstrong and Sam Bain’s brilliant comedy of university life.

There were three performances on Friday: Colder than Here, Laura Wade’s funny and poignant testament to family, relationships and finding light even in the darkest of times; Closer, an adaptation of Patrick Marber’s brutal dissection of love and sex (not for the fainthearted); and That’s My Aim, Honey Gawn-Hopkins’ terrific new musical which takes us back to the golden age of screwball comedy set in a New York newspaper office with glorious original songs.
Thank you to all the performers, writers, directors and crew for two evenings of riveting drama.
At Alleyn’s Oakfield, every child is nurtured to grow with confidence and curiosity. Occasional vacancies are now open for ages 5+, 6+, 8+, and 10+, with an assured place to Alleyn's Senior School at 11+. Register your interest
