Sixth Form art students went to a high profile talk by renowned artist, Michael Landy at Dulwich College on the 2 February. Famous for being one of the YBAs, Landy’s work was shown at the now infamous Freeze (1980)exhibition, curated by fellow Goldsmith’s student Damien Hirst. His work has focused on the world of marketing and consumerism, often presenting satirical views on the political and social climate of neoliberal Britain over the last decade and a half.
Landy is best known for his performance piece Break Down (2001)in which he destroyed all his possessions. In the talk, students gained valuable insight into the artist’s practise, hearing more about the concepts and process by which he arrives at his thought-provoking works.
We are delighted that Oakfield Prep School will join the Alleyn’s Schools Group as Alleyn’s Oakfield from September 2025. Find out more about this new chapter for junior education in Dulwich.
