Yumna Hussen, a 17 year old youth MP for Birmingham, came to visit Year 6 on Monday. She has been campaigning to limit junk food advertising and raise awareness of the importance of having a healthy diet. She has an audience with the Prime Minister at the end of the week to discuss her campaign further. It was hard to believe that Yumna is still a student at school, such was her composure and self-belief. The children were fascinated to learn that Yumna became interested in politics through writing a story, aged 11, about a boy living in a conflict zone. Her story was published and it made her realise that she had a voice. She encouraged the children to think about how joining their local youth council and offering ideas about how to make improvements to their neighbourhoods can make a difference.
