Alleyn’s School is a leading co-educational independent day school in Dulwich, London, educating pupils aged 4–18 across its Senior School and two Junior Schools: Alleyn’s Oakfield and Alleyn’s Junior School.
As part of an ALP ‘Cooking for Life’ Session, Year 11 prepared and ate a meal together, demonstrating that cooking is a shared experience allowing us to look after others. The menu was lamb kofta with handmade flatbread, red cabbage and carrot slaw with apple & blackberry crumble and custard to follow.
The pupils each had a section of the meal that they had to cook. One group made the lamb, the other group, the crumble, and another group made the custard and set the table – and everyone helped with the washing up!
Food and Nutrition teacher, Ms Wattley said: “It was a chance then for the pupils to serve one another and enjoy the sense of community that food can bring, particularly when connection has been harder to create in the last two years.”
She has encouraged the pupils to cook for someone as a break, and a chance to give back – during their study leave.
