This year we mark fifty years of association with the Worshipful Company of Saddlers. Their contribution to the school across half a century ranks them amongst our longest and most generous donors and their support has had a profound effect on life at Alleyn’s throughout this time.

On Thursday, we welcomed Alleyn’s governor Charles Barclay to our Great Hall to give a talk entitled “Root and Branch” where he spoke about the extraordinary relationship between Alleyn’s and the Saddlers – in addition to explaining a little more about the mysterious world of London’s livery companies.

Charles who has been a Prime Warden of the Worshipful Company of Saddlers, detailed his own family connection to the Worshipful Company or Saddlers and his experiences over 38 years as a Freeman of the Company.

Prior to his talk the school hosted Charles along with invited Saddlers' Scholar pupils for meal followed by a drinks reception for invited guests.
