On the evening of 7 March, 25 of Alleyn’s young singers competed in the final round of The Alleyn’s Singing Prize 2023, adjudicated by musician Edward Price, who is a member of the BBC Singers, the professional chamber choir of the BBC whose origins can be traced back to 1924.
Mr Beatty, Assistant Director of Music (Head of Performance) said:
“A huge range of vocal styles and voice types were in evidence, but all performed with real maturity and confidence. There is nowhere to hide, singing from memory, standing up on a stage and presenting your voice to an audience, and we were incredibly proud of how everyone coped with this.
“They all sang beautifully, but above all, communicated the texts of their songs with real conviction, taking their audience on an exhilarating emotional journey. As ever on these occasions, the adjudication was an unenviable task, but congratulations to Bella and Archie, who prevailed in their respective classes, managing to find that elusive quality of heart-wrenching sincerity to produce real magic.”
Adjudicator, Edward Price, said:
“It was absolutely my pleasure to spend this evening listening to your wonderful, talented singers. Congratulations to them all!”
