According to World Wildlife Fund UK, what ends up on our plates contributes to a quarter of global greenhouse gas emissions and nearly 60% of global biodiversity loss. In a bid to address the environmental impact of our diets, Eco Week 2023 at Alleyn's has revamped the lunchroom experience.

'Vegday' (Vegetarian Day):

Shifting from meat to plant-based options significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions, a key contributor to environmental harm.

'Tuesonal' (Seasonal Day - only in-season, British produce):

Choosing seasonally produced food not only supports local agriculture but also reduces packaging, transport, and intensive farming processes, offering a more budget-friendly and eco-conscious option.

'Wasteday' (Waste-Free Wednesday):

Addressing the staggering global food waste issue, the day encourages consuming leftovers and minimizing food waste, which contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions associated with food disposal.

'Thurgan' (Vegan Thursday):

Veganism eliminates the resource-intensive processes tied to animal agriculture, thereby reducing greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and deforestation.

'Free Day' (Free From Friday; foods free from Soy and Palm Oil, plus Gluten and common allergens):

A focus on palm oil and soy-free alternatives aims to combat deforestation and biodiversity loss, helping to safeguard ecosystems and mitigate climate change.
