Huge congratulations to Professor David (Dafydd) Thomas (Tulley’s 1963) who has been awarded an Officer of the Order of the British Empire (OBE) in the King’s Birthday Honours for services to Clinical Neuroscience.

Professor Thomas, Lately Professor Emeritus of Clinical Neuroscience at Imperial College and Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust, is one of the 1,200 people recognised on the main honours list for making a great impact in their line of work.

His work in neuroscience, with a particular focus in the area of stroke, has been incredibly vast and impactful. He has held numerous consultant neurologist posts throughout his career. He was a long-standing member of national and international stroke associations and served on the boards of several neurological charities. He was President of the Medical Society of London (2019–20) and Chairman of the St Mary’s Development Trust from 2016. He has also authored several notable medical texts. Most recently, Professor Thomas was Director of D-Gen Ltd from 2000-2025 and Chairman of St Mary’s Development Trust 2016- 2025.

On receiving this honour, he said:

"It is very gratifying to realise that my clinical and research efforts (always as part of a team) in improving the prevention of stroke and the treatment of acute stroke have been appreciated."

Dafydd left Alleyn’s in 1963 to study at Clare College Cambridge. During his time at Alleyn’s he was School Captain and involved in debating, chess, CCF as well as sport, including cricket and fives. He has remained close to the School and we are incredibly grateful for his continued support and friendship.

Congratulations Dafydd on this fantastic and well-deserved honour in recognition of your achievements. We are all extremely proud of you at Alleyn’s!
