Development and Alumni Beyond Alleyn's

Thank you to alumnus Oscar Baker (Tyson’s 2017) for delivering the latest So You Want To Be… talk – a half‑termly webinar series organised through the Southwark Schools’ Learning Partnership (SSLP) - where he shared his career journey as a lawyer.

The SSLP brings together 18 state and independent schools in and around Southwark, including Alleyn's, which share a committment to creating shared learning opportunities. Students from partner schools tuned in to hear Oscar’s insights and advice for anyone considering a career in law.

Oscar is now a solicitor at Norton Rose Fulbright, a global commercial law firm headquartered in Southwark. He specialises in competition and regulatory law, advising business clients on complex matters. Before qualifying as a lawyer, he worked as a UK Government official focusing on international trade and health policy.

Marking National Careers Week, Oscar spoke about his motivations for entering the legal profession, how his A levels and History degree shaped his path, and the various routes into law that pupils can consider - from traditional degrees to apprenticeships.

Students asked thoughtful questions, ranging from the impact of AI on the legal sector to the pathways for becoming a judge.

A huge thank you to Oscar for supporting pupils at Alleyn’s and across Southwark schools!
