Development and Alumni Beyond Alleyns

We saw sun, rain and the unmistakable Alleyn's spirit and sense of community as we welcomed alumni, parents, and friends back to Townley Road for this year’s much-anticipated Alumni Cricket Reunion.

Despite torrential bursts of rain sweeping across the fields at intervals, spirits remained undampened throughout the day. Alumni enjoyed the chance to catch up and reconnect with old friends and reminisce about their own days on the sporting fields and the Alleyn’s classrooms.

On the field, Alleyn’s boys' cricketers took on the Forty Club in a closely contested match. The final result saw Alleyn's bowled out for 183 chasing 205 and losing by 22. Regardless of the outcome, it was a superb display of talent, teamwork, and sportsmanship, reflecting the strength of cricket at Alleyn’s today.

During a delicious lunch, Alleyn’s Head of Cricket Jack Maskill thanked alumni and parents for joining us and congratulated the players. He reflected on the strength of cricketers at Alleyn’s - both boys and girls, pointing out the girls’ 1st XI playing a match further along the pitches. Jack spoke of our immense pride in the growing popularity of cricket among girls and of our inclusive sports programme, especially as we celebrate 50 years of co-education at Alleyn’s.

The reunion continues to be a cherished annual tradition - an opportunity to reconnect, reminisce, and celebrate shared experiences across generations of the Alleyn’s community.

As Richard Percival (Tulley’s 1964) commented:

“It is an event I look forward to every year. Thank you very much for a really lovely day. You all do wonderfully to make sure we have a great time.”

It was a joy to see so many familiar faces and to welcome new faces to the event too, and we are grateful to everyone who joined us and made the day so memorable.
