Alleyn’s alumnae Sasha Howard (Dutton’s 2023) and her sister Cassie Howard (Dutton’s 2021) are set to unite this Friday as they take the netball court together for Leeds Rhinos in their Super League match against the LexisNexis Dragons. The club confirmed that Sasha has been called up from the NXT Gen squad to join the senior side for the Round 4 fixture, where she will play alongside her sister Cassie, who is serving as Vice Captain this season and making her 40th appearance for the side.
This Friday’s match offers a special moment for the Howard family and the wider Alleyn’s community, as the sisters take to the court together on a major professional stage.
In a video interview for Rhinos Netball, Cassie said of Sasha's call up and playing together:
“This has always been the dream. In recent years I’ve known that this is coming for her. I’m super excited that we can be in the same team when the debut actually happens.”
Both Sasha and Cassie have had outstanding sporting journeys. At Alleyn's, Sasha was the 2023 recipient of the prestigious Fournel Cup which is awarded each year for sporting excellence. An award honouring outstanding athletic achievement, the cup was established in honour of David Fournel (Spurgeon’s 1957) who was one of Alleyn’s most outstanding sportsmen.
Earlier this academic year, the School was delighted to welcome Sasha back to the annual Last Lap Reunion Lunch - an event celebrating David’s legacy - where she shared insights into her continued progression in elite netball.
Huge congratulations to Sasha on being called up to the senior team and best of luck to both Sasha and Cassie! We’ll be cheering you on!
You can watch the game live on Sky Sports YouTube and Sky Sports Mix at 7:00pm on Friday 20 March and via the official Netball Super League stream.
