Congratulations to composer Dobrinka Tabakova (Tyson’s 1997), who has been named the winner of BBC Music Magazine’s 2026 Premiere Award for her album Sun Triptych. The award forms part of the 21st annual BBC Music Magazine Awards, voted for by the public.

This vibrant second ECM release devoted to Tabakova showcases her orchestral writing at full radiance. At the heart of the album is Sun Triptych, a luminous three‑movement work tracing the journey from dawn to dusk, described by reviewers as a piece in which “Tabakova allows her aural imagination to take flight.”

On receiving the award, Dobrinka paid tribute to the BBC Concert Orchestra, her long‑term soloist collaborators, ECM Records, and her producer, highlighting that the album represents over a decade of planning and creative partnership.

Following Alleyn’s, Dobrinka studied at the Guildhall School of Music and Drama and completed a PhD at King’s College London. In 2019, she returned to Alleyn’s musical life, composing a new school anthem, I will be with thee, which premiered at the Alleyn's 400th Anniversary Service at Westminster Abbey. She now sits on the WJ Smith Trust Awards Committee which provides financial assistance to talented musicians to attend Alleyn's.
