Congratulations to alumnus Robert Harkness (Tyson’s 2019) who took on an incredible challenge walking a 1200-mile route from John O'Groats in Scotland to Land’s End in Cornwall between 23 August and 29 October entirely under his own power and in one continuous push.

Sharing his motivations for taking on the challenge, Robert said:

“I'd just finished uni and had a few months off before my job started so I needed to find something to do with my time off. Rather than going round Thailand or road tripping America I wanted to do something a bit different. I wanted to take on something that I couldn't be certain I would finish. The Lands End-John O'Groats walk being 'one of the ultimate walking challenges in the UK' I thought it sounded great. It guaranteed I would face some suffering, learn how I deal with it and give me no choice but to carry on anyway."

He continued:

"I also decided that rather than just make it purely selfish mission to challenge myself I could do some good for others at the same time. By raising money for my local hospice, helping deliver beautiful, compassionate, humanising, end-of-life care to terminally ill patients, supporting them and their families through what time they have left together.”

Robert raised an incredible £1300 for Royal Trinity Hospice in London to support the delivery of first-class palliative and end of life care for free, to those who need it most.
