The Economics Department was delighted to welcome back Alleyn’s alumna Emma Tackoor (Spurgeon's 2013), as she returned to school to mentor our four Year 12 students taking part in the GAIN Investment Competition.
GAIN (Girls Are INvestors) is a charity dedicated to increasing the representation of young women in the finance industry by providing mentorship, training and opportunities for aspiring female investors. Emma’s visit brought this mission to life for our students.
Since leaving Alleyn’s, Emma has built an impressive career in finance — beginning at Coutts and now working at UBS — and she generously shared her journey, insights and practical advice with the group. Her thoughtful reflections helped demystify the sector and offered an inspiring example of what is possible.
As the team’s mentor, Emma is guiding the students as they prepare a stock pitch for Next plc, supporting them in using live financial data to analyse the company and develop a clear investment thesis. This hands‑on experience has significantly strengthened the students’ understanding of real‑world economic and financial analysis.
We are extremely grateful to Emma for giving her time and expertise, and for continuing to support the next generation of young economists and investors at Alleyn’s.
