On 18 January, the British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) announced the nominations for the 2024 EE BAFTA Film Awards, which celebrate the very best in film of the past year, and we are delighted that Alleyn’s alumni are involved in two of the nominated films - The Zone of Interest and Barbie

Reno Antoniades (Tulley’s 1984), the current President of the Edward Alleyn Club, is the Executive Producer for the film The Zone of Interest which has picked up a whopping nine BAFTA Award nominations, including:

  • Adapted screenplay
  • Film not in the English language
  • Director
  • Supporting Actress
  • Outstanding British Film
  • Cinematography

  • Production Design
  • Sound

Reno was introduced as EAC President in November 2023 at the Annual Dinner, where he received the President's Medallion from the outgoing post holder Sue Lane. He was also the host and keynote speaker for our dedicated Media, TV and Film networking evening, held in October of the same year.

Among the 38 films which received nominations, Barbie also featured heavily with an impressive five BAFTA nominations, which include:

  • Original Screenplay
  • Supporting Actor
  • Leading Actress
  • Costume Design
  • Production Design

Alumnus Nico Ferrari (Spurgeon's 2005), runs Picture Vehicles Limited which sources, designs and creates vehicles for major TV and films including all of the vehicles in the film, Barbie.

Nico kindly shared his industry knowledge and insight with Alleyn’s DT and Film Studies pupils in October last year and in May he shared his skills and knowledge with DT and Film Studies staff during a tour he led for them of the Warner Bros Studios.

Congratulations to Reno and Nico for the roles you have played in these incredible films and best of luck to all those involved in The Zone of Interest and Barbie movies when the BAFTA Awards winners are announced on 18 February.
