Development and Alumni

Hot on the heels of last week’s BAFTA boost for Alleyn’s Alumni, we’re delighted to see similar success in the 2024 Oscar Nominations, announced on 23 January.

Reno Antoniades (Tulley’s 1984), the current President of the Edward Alleyn Club, is the Executive Producer for the film The Zone of Interest - a hauntingly original Holocaust drama. The film has been nominated in an incredible five Oscar Award categories, including:

  • Best Adapted Screenplay
  • Best International Feature Film
  • Best Sound
  • Best Director
  • Best Picture

Reno was introduced as EAC President in November 2023 at the 126th Edward Alleyn Club Annual Dinner. He was also the host and keynote speaker for our dedicated Always Alleyn's Media, TV and Film Networking evening for alumni, pupils and parents, held in October 2023.

Another film which has been hugely successful in the running for this year's Oscars is Barbie, which alumnus Nico Ferrari (Spurgeon's 2005) is involved in. Nico runs Picture Vehicles Limited which sources, designs and creates vehicles for major TV and films including all of the vehicles in the film, Barbie, including Barbie’s very own Corvette which was driven remotely by an operator using a VR headset!

Barbie has received an incredible eight Oscar Award nominations, including:

  • Best Costume Design
  • Best Adapted Screenplay
  • Best Original Song – two nominations for What was I made for? and I’m just Ken
  • Best Production Design
  • Best Picture
  • Best Supporting Actress (America Ferrera)
  • Best Supporting Actor (Ryan Gosling)

Nico kindly shared his industry knowledge and insight with Alleyn’s DT and Film Studies pupils in October last year and in May welcomed DT and Film Studies staff to the Warner Bros Studio for the day.

Congratulations to Reno and Nico for the roles you have played in these incredible films.
