Our Year 12 Spanish students recently had the valuable opportunity to take part in a live Q&A session, conducted entirely in Spanish, with professor Juan Jose Lecaros of the Central University of Chile. As part of their extension work on the film Machuca, students explored the political and social context of 1970s Chile, including themes such as human rights abuses, torture, and disappearances under the Pinochet dictatorship. They also discussed contemporary issues in Chile, including ongoing inequality and social change.
This enriching partnership with our Chilean colleague has now been running for three years, and we are deeply grateful for his continued support. His insights not only deepen students’ understanding of their academic studies but also highlight the enduring importance of equality, respect, and listening to others - even when opinions differ.
