Alumna Izzy Mace (Brown’s 2023) returned to Alleyn’s on 11 September to inspire students in the Alleyn’s Biology Society about her Master’s Degree in Plant Sciences at Sheffield University.
Izzy shared some of the fascinating research she has been working on, including experiments tackling real-world problems such as using fungi to improve soil quality in agriculture and exploring the use of phages to infect bacteria in plants.
Students were particularly excited to recognise many of the experimental techniques Izzy uses day-to-day – from DNA electrophoresis to antibiotic selection – as techniques they have carried out and learnt about in school.
Thank you, Izzy for teaching our budding biologists so much about how brilliant plants are!
We are so grateful to alumni, like Izzy, who share their journeys, insights and inspiration with our pupils – sparking curiosity in the next generation. If you’d like to support pupils, we’d love to hear from you at [email protected]
