Year 12 economists were among 300 students at the Dulwich College Young Economists Conference, where they were able to listen to an exciting line-up of speakers on the topic of “Using Economics to make the world a better place.” This included fascinating talks from Katherine Peachey, Head of Equinor Ventures, Sriram Srikumar of The Economist magazine and Khalid Talukder, one of the founders of DKK Partners. The insights into the wide range of applications of Economics in everyday life and greater social change were massively engaging for all.

Following this, we took part in a workshop led by the legendary Peter Cramp (who is the Editor of Economics Today) alongside 10 other SSLP schools. We were formed into teams with students from other Southwark schools and then had to answer the question “As the Monetary Policy Committee what decision would you make on the setting of interest rates today?” Each team then had to present their analysis and recommendation to a panel of teachers, who asked searching questions.

Congratulations to Poppy Pandya and Mischa Jayaram, who were finalists, and thanks to Mr Robertson and the Economics Department for organising such an enjoyable day.
