Year 12 biologists from Alleyn’s and a small contingent from the future Alleyn’s Hampstead travelled to FSC Juniper Hall last weekend in the beautiful Surrey Hills.
On Saturday they looked at succession on Mickleham Downs clambering into the undergrowth to investigate how species changed from one seral stage to another. They then enjoyed a campfire, marshmallow roasting followed by football, frisbee and table football as they unwound in the evening.
On Sunday we headed down to the River Tillingbourne to go wading into the river to collect data for their coursework investigating how the distribution of invertebrates differed from one area to another.
We hope our Year 12s will have fond memories of counting nymphs and varnishing snails (!!) at a site of special scientific interest!
