On Wednesday, we had the pleasure of hosting macrophotography and self-taught ant expert Eduard F. Niga (aka Ant Man) to talk to the students about the diversity of ant species and behaviours.

There are 15,000 species of ant, and Eddy has photographed over 100 different species using specialist camera equipment to capture them in remarkable detail. The students spent the morning learning about ant biology before exploring the science of photography. They then spent the afternoon capturing insects and small objects using the macro settings on their phones before completing a short art project drawing ant faces.

It was a fascinating day and opened the students' eyes not only to the biodiversity of ants, but also to the non-linear nature of life and careers. Please do have a look at his website to see some of his work. It is pretty amazing!
