We recently held our 4th and 5th Foundation Vet Society meetings, which have now expanded to welcome pupils from Royal Russell and Oasis Academy.
Louisa Ellis (Alleyn’s parent) and Cat McSorley (JAGS alumna) joined us from Paxton Vets to share their experiences as a practice manager and vet at one of our local practices. They spoke about their career pathways, university journeys, and set case studies and triage scenarios for pupils to work through. Bertie the Border Terrier also joined the session — a fitting addition, as recent Nottingham Vet interviews have asked applicants to interact with a dog as part of the process!
We were also treated to a live video call with Cotts Equine founder John Edwards and five of his current equine vets. Cotts is the first equine hospital in Wales, and pupils learned about their new CT scanner designed specifically for horses. The group also explored ethical issues around AI (Artificial Insemination) in thoroughbreds, horse racing, and hunting.
A huge thank you to all the vets for giving up their time to support our aspiring veterinary applicants.
