Yesomi Umolu (Spurgeon's 2002) Appointed General and Artistic Director at Nieuwe Instituut

Alleyn's Governor Yesomi Umolu (Spurgeon's 2002) has been announced as the new General and Artistic Director of the Nieuwe Instituut in Rotterdam, the Netherlands' national museum for architecture, design and digital culture. 

Beginning March 2026, Yesomi will bring her significant expertise in architecture, contemporary art and digital culture to the role. Yesomi has a huge wealth of artistic leadership in a range of positions at cultural organisations around the world. She is currently Vice Chair of the Board of Trustees at the Horniman Museum in London.

Previously Yesomi was the Director of Curatorial Affairs and Public Practice at Serpentine, overseeing the artistic program and curatorial team. She was Artistic Director of the 2019 Chicago Architecture Biannale, overseeing a critically acclaimed curatorial programme, and served on the board for the United States Pavilion at the 16th Venice Architecture Biennale.
