Remembrance Day remains one of the most significant and heartfelt occasions in the Alleyn’s calendar, a moment when pupils, staff, and families unite in gratitude and reflection to honour those who have given their lives in service.
Each year, The Edward Alleyn Club’s Remembrance Sunday Service brings together more than 400 cadets and CFAVs from Alleyn’s, Dulwich College, and JAGS for a formal parade, from Alleyn’s and Dulwich College through the heart of Dulwich. The parade culminates in a service and wreath-laying ceremony outside Christ's Chapel in Dulwich Village, welcoming members of the Foundation Schools, alumni, local residents, and businesses.
Following the poignant parade and a two-minute silence, the President of the Edward Alleyn Club, Aisha Bywaters (Brown’s 2002), paid tribute to the all of the student cadets for their hard work and fitting tribute on this important day of Remembrance. She honoured the courage of those who served before us and recognised present day conflicts continuing to bring pain, loss and displacement to countless people.
She said:
“Today, we pause to remember those who gave their lives in war – men and women who faced unimaginable hardship so that others might live in peace. Each year, more veterans pass away, taking with them the last living memories of the wars that changed our world.”
She continued,
“Let us honour the courage of those who served before us, think of those living through war now, and commit ourselves to building a more just and safe world – one worthy of sacrifice.”
All cadets and staff put in a tremendous amount of effort, and the occasion continues to be a moving tribute to the enduring values of service, remembrance, and community.
As is tradition, the school community also gathered in the Quad for a solemn service led by Rev Pharaoh on Remembrance Day. Senior Cadets formed the Guard of Honour and the Drum Head Party, while Mrs Lunnon and Rev Pharaoh laid our Standard upon the Drum Head. Together, the Alleyn’s community reflected on themes of duty, sacrifice, and remembrance, reaffirming the importance of this timeless observance each year.
