Alleyn’s School 
In yet another display of Alleyn’s spirit, tenacity and dedication, the 1st XI Hockey Girls have secured a SECOND National Title in Lee Valley this week.
The team made the journey to Stratford to play a nail-biter of a match against The Perse School, Cambridge. It was an incredible day for the team who got to walk in the footsteps of the Great Britain international players by playing at the Olympic Park. Taking a swathe of Alleyn’s supporters in tow, the stadium was buzzing with Alleyn’s Spirit and an indelible energy that could not be dampened.
Going into game time, it was a fast-paced start, with The Perse School throwing everything they could at the girls from minute one. The team stayed strong, fending off the challenges as they started to build into the game, creating a secure defensive platform which prevented any goals.
As the game progressed, Alleyn’s started to dominate for longer spells and caused more and more problems for the hard-working Perse team. With only 5 minutes to spare and some relentless grit and determination, the ball was forced over the line by Holly after a smart baseline retrieval from Annika.
The entire team worked incredibly hard throughout the match to tidy up any errors, believing in themselves to secure the victory.
Their determination was supported by the huge crowd of Alleyn’s pupils and parents who arrived full of voice and with supportive posters and played the figurative role of the extra player for the team in the dying minutes.
Director of Sport Mr. Shedwick is completely thrilled with the outcome of the season, stating;
'I am delighted that Alleyn's are National Champions, again! Our U18 Girls Hockey won the England Hockey T2 National Cup, cementing their stellar season which already includes an impressive Independent Schools Hockey (ISH) National title won in February.
‘We had over 100 pupils from Year 7, 8 and 10 in attendance at Lee Valley, and it really was a wonderful experience, highlighting the power of sport in unifying and celebrating our community.’
This concludes a historic season for the 1st XI, a truly indescribable feeling and a monumental achievement from the players, whom we are all supremely proud of.
