The Alleyn’s Development and Alumni Relations Team was delighted to host a pre-concert reception for alumni, parents of Year 13 musicians, former staff and governors ahead of the magnificent Alleyn’s Southwark Cathedral Instrumental and Choral Concert on 30 April.

Held at Vinoteca Borough Yards, a short walk from Southwark Cathedral, it was a wonderful opportunity to celebrate music at Alleyn’s past, present and future and also recognise the hugely impactful support that many talented Alleyn’s musicians benefit from through the WJ Smith Trust Music Award.

Among the guests, it was a pleasure to welcome eminent classical composer Dobrinka Tabakova (Tyson’s 1997), who among many accolades has been BBC Concert Orchestra composer-in-residence, has been commissioned by the Royal Philharmonic Society, BBC Radio 3 and the European Broadcasting Union and has won the Ivor Novello Award for Best Community and Participation Commission.

And among the parents who joined us, we were delighted to welcome back five Alleyn’s alumni who are now parents of Year 13 students who were performing in the concert at Southwark Cathedral - a testament to lifelong Alleyn's connections.

Welcoming guests to the event, Head Jane Lunnon commented on the strength and of Alleyn’s community and Music at Alleyn's. She said:

“I’m thrilled to have the range of people that we have here today – past Heads, wonderful governors and past governors, incredible supporters and parents of incredibly talented young people. It’s about these young people doing something that they love really, really well. In every single way, everyone here, you are part of our community, and we are very grateful.”

Thank you to everyone who joined us and congratulations to all of the musicians who performed in the incredible concert that evening.
