Development and Alumni Senior School News

We were delighted to welcome back more than 30 recent leavers on Friday 27 June to support Year 12s with their next steps beyond Alleyn’s.

The alumni café style session was part of Year 12s Higher Education Day - an amazing opportunity for Year 12 students to hear recent leavers’ insights into the whirlwind of university decisions, course choices and UCAS process, as they begin to navigate the, sometimes quite daunting, process themselves.

It was amazing to welcome back so many alumni from the classes of 2021 through to 2024 to share their experiences of different courses and university destinations as well as gap year experiences. It was a buzzy and fun atmosphere with Year 12s asking insightful questions to get the inside track on courses, and university and student life.

The group of alumni brought inspiration, wisdom and their honest insights of a broad range of subjects including STEM, Medicine and Veterinary Medicine, English, Economics and Classics, as well as from different destinations including The Universities of Manchester and Leeds, Oxford, Cambridge, Edinburgh, Imperial College and more.

Alleyn’s Director of University Admissions, Mrs Copeland, said:

“The sessions looked very purposeful and there were some very positive conversations happening!”

Thank you to all our recent alumni for giving back and supporting Year 12s. Your wisdom has been invaluable, and we thoroughly enjoyed catching up and hearing what you’re up to – as did lots of your former teachers, over lunch!

For the first time this year, we also offered something for our alumni too – a tailored careers panel just for them. On the lively panel discussion, three working professionals (and proud Alleyn’s alumni) shared what it takes to stand out in the job market and applications for internships, offering real-world advice from both sides of the hiring table.

The panel included:

  • Harriet Gallagher-Powell (Dutton's 2005), General Counsel and Deputy Group Company Secretary at Legal & General
  • Max Denis (Brading’s 2002) Analyst, Sustainable Finance Advisory at NatWest
  • Ryan Nguyen (Tulley's 2021) Head of Rates and FX at ICORD CAPITAL

Huge thanks to our panel and to everyone who joined us for such a fun, insightful and rewarding day!
