Alumnus Harry Houseago (Brown’s 2014) kicked off the first Junior School Friday Mini Lecture with an inspiring talk on his career as a performing artist and songwriter, including performances at the Eventim Apollo and Glastonbury Festival.
Harry inspired parents and pupils alike with his journey as a performing artist - handling the successes and knock-backs that can come with a life in music. Whilst studying for his GCSEs at Alleyn’s, Harry entered into the first of many music management agreements that would represent his own songwriting and performing over the years, resulting in him writing and recording his debut album at the age of fifteen at Pink Floyd’s Britannia Row studios in London.
His career as singer/songwriter and original music artist has led him to perform at the Eventim Apollo and Glastonbury Festival, Green Gathering and the Hanwell Hootie. He and his band have shared festival stages with artists as diverse as Feeder, Scouting For Girls and The Boomtown Rats.
Harry also shared how he is a passionate believer in the educational and therapeutic power of music. He has performed at and taught musical workshops for Great Ormond Street Hospital, King’s College Hospital and the Honeypot Charity for young carers.
He also talked of the importance of the musical education and performance opportunities he received as a student here at Alleyn’s and his passion for helping others benefit too, as a Visiting Music Teacher at Alleyn’s.
Thank you, Harry!
