Over the weekend, delegates from schools across the Southeast gathered at Alleyn’s for the Alleyn’s National MUN Conference 2025. This thrilling day of debate saw over 170 delegates tackle key global issues across seven committees, from safeguarding press freedom under authoritarian regimes to addressing the security situation in Libya. Delegates worked tirelessly, passing a number of resolutions that offered practical solutions to some of humanity’s most pressing challenges. While there was lively debate, six of the seven committees eventually reached strong consensus, demonstrating both focus and determination in resolving the issues at hand.

In the afternoon, the General Assembly offered a lighter moment as delegates considered a resolution on the viability of exiling Elon Musk to space. The debate was full of memorable speeches, including an impassioned defence of Musk’s rights by a notably isolated USA. Beyond the humour, the discussion also raised serious questions, ranging from the potential of solar power as a mass energy solution to the balance between state sovereignty and economic development in tackling climate change. Delegates rose admirably to the challenge, showing confidence and maturity in their eventual solutions. While there were minor misunderstandings, particularly around how solar panels functioned, the outcomes were impressive and well thought out.

Overall, it was a brilliant, inspiring, and thought-provoking day of debate, and will surely be remembered as one of the standout events on the Alleyn’s calendar this year.
