Non-Commissioned Officers, Jasper and Tristan, have been making waves in the Combined Cadet Force (CCF) since joining in Year 9 and 10 respectively. Known for their proactive approach to challenges, and often found working together, they have quickly become standout members of the cadet force and the wider school community.

From the start, Jasper viewed the CCF as a unique opportunity different from other school activities. Drawn to the Royal Air Force section and enticed by the idea of piloting an aircraft, he was motivated to join.

Tristan, who joined one year later, had seen many of his friends join the CCF, and that they were enjoying the opportunities and trips on offer. When he saw them put their skills into practice at the end of Year 9, he decided that he wanted to be a part of it. He’s also a big fan of fresh air and being outside.

Since joining, they have both actively participated in numerous CCF trainings and exercises, notably, the summer camp in Cyprus last year. Reflecting on these experiences, Jasper fondly recalls the Cyprus camp for its foreign locale, beautiful weather, and the thrilling opportunity to fly in a helicopter. Tristan noted the enriching experience of being able to work with other cadets from other schools and to receive training from regular Army.

When it comes to the most memorable experiences so far, Tristan couldn’t look past his attendance at Remembrance Sunday, 2022. The event, held at the Cenotaph Memorial, saw Tristian alongside 7 other cadets act as a welcoming party for His Majesty the King and the assembled working Royals – a truly incredible opportunity to be part of.

Beyond involvement in the CCF, Jasper's talents extend to the realm of drama, where most recently, he took on roles in the Alleyn's production of Legally Blonde. His portrayal of Dewey and contributions to the ensemble have earned him recognition as a versatile performer.

Tristan also maintains a strong representation across activities outside of CCF; in the school musical playing violin, viola, piano and singing. He has found that a lot of what he learns in CCF helps build discipline in other areas, and that through working in group activity, he has gained leadership and cooperative skills. Much of this is transferable to the academic environment, particularly the elements of teamwork and organisation.

In April, the pair will be attending the Master Cadet Course at the Cadet Training Centre (CTC), Frimley Park. The course is for the most senior cadets from across the country to learn skills in leadership, teamwork, fieldcraft and command and control. It is the highest qualification available to Army Cadets and is often the pinnacle of a cadet's career.

These two together are an invaluable source of leadership and inspiration for younger cadets as they come through the ranks, continually facing challenges and tasks with enthusiasm. When it comes to words of advice for pupils looking to join the CCF, Tristan put it very simply: ‘Do it. And for those already in the CCF - stay, it only gets better.’.

Well done, dream team.
