Every Monday afternoon, Alleyn’s comes alive with creativity, energy, and collaboration as 254 primary school pupils from local schools join us during Periods 6–7 for an exciting programme of projects and workshops.
Over 80 of our Year 12 students, supported by 13 members of staff, take the lead, designing and running sessions in Art, Dance, Drama, Music, Sport, Computing and more. It’s a unique experience that benefits everyone involved.
For the Sixth Formers, it’s an incredible opportunity to develop confidence, teamwork, public speaking and organisation skills as they plan and deliver lessons to younger pupils. They also gain valuable experience interacting with a wide range of people, from enthusiastic primary students to their visiting staff.
For the visiting children, the experience is equally special. They get to explore Alleyn’s facilities, learn in smaller groups, and enjoy being taught by students not much older than themselves.
Recent projects have included a European animals theme to tie in with Heber Primary’s Europe project. During their four-week run, Year 5 pupils sculpted animals in clay and even created imaginative hybrid creatures!
Next week, the Alleyn’s team will head to Crawford School to begin a brand-new project with Year 3 and 4 pupils, continuing this brilliant partnership of learning, creativity and community.
