We’re delighted to announce that our planning application to Southwark Council for the transformation of our school site has now been formally submitted following extensive consultation with both our internal and external communities.
This campus-wide transformation project, fondly named Project Crucible, represents a significant step forward in delivering our long-term vision for the School. It will transform key areas of our campus on Townley Road, Dulwich to ensure that Alleyn’s continues to provide an outstanding, future-focused education in facilities that match our ambition.
Central to the proposal, submitted today, is the creation of a building to feed mind, body and soul including a new dining hall, 12 future facing teaching spaces, and a new hall which will be a home not only for general school life but also our creative arts departments. The development will replace the existing dining hall with modern, sustainable and flexible facilities designed to serve both the school and its valued community partnerships.
This planning proposal sits alongside enabling work proposals, and future phased work to create a statement Sixth Form Centre in our Buttery building and the relocation of our library into the Great Hall. In total Project Crucible will see the transformation of a third of our school site and the new building will cover 2,500sqm which echoes the footprint of our iconic main building.
These plans have been shaped by extensive engagement with our community. Through consultation events and conversations with pupils, parents, staff, alumni and neighbours, we have gathered valuable feedback that has directly informed the proposals. We are extremely grateful to everyone who contributed their time, ideas and insights.
Head, Jane Lunnon, said:
“Submitting this planning application is a significant milestone for Project Crucible and for Alleyn’s. As we focus on making space for the future, this development reflects our commitment to creating an exceptional educational environment; one that supports creativity, academic excellence and wellbeing in equal measure. These plans have been shaped through meaningful collaboration with our community, and we look forward to continuing that dialogue as we take the next steps together.”
Project Crucible is a major investment in the school’s future and will be delivered in carefully planned phases to minimise disruption to teaching and learning. Once complete, the enhanced facilities will benefit current and future pupils, as well as our wider community through expanded opportunities for partnership and shared use.
