Our Middle School pupils brought the curtain down on a spectacular production of Great Expectations, delivering two performances that were as accomplished as they were heartfelt.
From the very first rehearsal to the final bow, pupils took genuine ownership of the production. Leading with confidence and courage, they worked collaboratively both on stage and behind the scenes, supporting one another and rising impressively to every challenge. It was a brilliant example of pupil leadership and teamwork in action.
Across two consecutive evenings, packed audiences were treated to energetic and assured performances of Charles Dickens’ classic tale of class, resentment and intrigue. In this gripping adaptation by Nick Ormerod and Declan Donnellan, a host of vivid and sometimes dangerous characters were brought to life with flair, humour and emotional depth.
The cast delivered their lines with conviction, capturing both the darkness and the warmth of Dickens’ world, while the backstage team ensured the production ran seamlessly. From lighting and sound to set changes and stage management, the professionalism on display was remarkable.
With a lively atmosphere before the performance and during the interval, the evenings felt like true theatre occasions. Most importantly, the pupils created something they could be genuinely proud of, a production full of heart, commitment and confidence that left audiences thoroughly entertained and full of admiration.
