On Monday evening, four students attended the regional round of Oxford University’s Schools Debating competition at St Paul’s Girls School. They debated two motions - one regarding the conscription of women, and one regarding social media bans - and had a brilliant time!
Reflecting on the evening, Maja K-T (Year 12) shared:
None of us had much, or any experience debating beforehand. It was all very new for us, from learning what British Parliamentary style is to gaining confidence in asking point of informations.
We all put ourselves out of our comfort zone and we're greeted with such kindness from everyone at the event. Participants were eager to chat and make friends and the chairs were generous with their time and energy, giving us priceless feedback and advice.
We may not have broken through to the next round, but we broke though our worries and put ourselves out there, loving every second of it!! It was educational, and exhilarating! I recommend more take advantage of these opportunities, there is a place for everyone!
