A group of Year 8 boys recently took part in the pilot of our first Pupil-led project aimed at developing communication skills among young men. This initiative builds on Voicebox’s work with 17 pupils across Years 10 and 12 through the ‘Healthy Leaders’ programme. The programme promotes positive masculinity and trains young men to design and lead social action projects within their communities.
Over the Lent term, these older pupils worked hard to conceive four projects that will run throughout the next academic year. The first of these, called ‘Drum and Bakes’, was piloted during PSHE this week with 15 Year 8 pupils.
‘Drum and Bakes’ combines music and baking as a fun and engaging way to start important conversations about the challenges men face when communicating with each other. The pilot was a huge success: 30 cupcakes were baked, and some thought-provoking discussions were sparked.
A huge thank you goes to Will J, Max, Will M, and Sam for their leadership and commitment to this essential and meaningful work!
