Four of our Year 10 students took part in the latest stage of the SSLP Collaborative Student Voice Project this week, working alongside peers from Harris Boys’ and Charter North to design innovative AI solutions for use in schools.

During the session, mixed-school teams focused on refining their business plans, identifying their target market and audience, and tackling the ethical questions surrounding their ideas. The groups will come together again in January to continue developing their concepts ahead of presentations in May.

Over 50 students from nine schools across the Southwark Schools Learning Partnership gathered at Kingswood Arts for the project launch. The morning opened with inspiring talks from industry experts:

  • Christine Foster, GM for AI and Automation at Experian and former Chief Commercial Officer at The Alan Turing Institute, spoke about turning cutting-edge research into real-world impact.
  • Rob Waugh, technology and science journalist, shared insights from his investigations into AI-generated “fake experts” and his forthcoming book on AI, robotics and Nasa’s ‘Bees’.
  • Matt Webb, designer, entrepreneur, co-founder of the design studio BERG and now leading Acts Not Facts, explored creative, human-centred applications of emerging technology.

Students then formed mixed groups to work with facilitators from Employee Volunteering and officially begin their AI Enterprise Challenge. With collaboration at the heart of the programme, the coming months promise exciting ideas, ambitious thinking and a powerful shared vision for the future of AI in education.
