We were delighted to welcome alumnus Max Denis (Brading’s 2020) back to Alleyn’s on 7 May as part of the London School of Economics (LSE) Generate Schools Programme – an initiative designed to develop entrepreneurial thinking and leadership skills to address society’s greatest challenges.
Following three intensive boot camps involving mentoring sessions with founders and industry experts at LSE’s ‘Gen Den’ in Holborn, the Year 12 students showcased the fruits of their labour during Wednesday’s Demo afternoon. The teams were given a strict five minutes to pitch their ideas for a product or service to a panel of judges for the chance to win an internship at the LSE campus and work with the team to take their ideas further.
Max, who read Psychological and Behavioural Sciences at LSE and now works at NatWest helping corporations implement sustainable business practices, was part of the judging panel which also included his parents. His father, Mike, is an entrepreneur and mentor, while his mother, Olivia, serves as LSE Generate’s administrator.
Opening the event, Mike encouraged the Alleyn’s students to embrace the experience, saying:
“This is the beginning of your entrepreneurial journey. I hope you seize the opportunity!”
Our Year 12s rose to the challenge with confidence and creativity, presenting thoughtful solutions to local and national issues. These included a vape-prevention app aimed at reducing youth vaping, a website promoting cultural inclusivity in the beauty industry, and a redesigned urban waste bin system to reduce litter and improve public spaces.
After their pitches, students faced probing questions from the judges, who commended their poise, insight, and commitment to positive change.
We extend our warmest congratulations to all Year 12 participants and offer special thanks to Max for returning to Alleyn’s to share his expertise and inspire the next generation of innovators.
